My name is Jennifer Challenger, and I am running for OTBU’s Human Rights Officer.
I have been a member of OSSTF for 20 years and have worked in District 26 as an occasional teacher for the past 12 years.
As the OTBU Human Rights officer for the past two years, I have worked on the CfED committee where I collaborated with others to create initiatives that recognize and appreciate people of different racial groups, creeds, ethnicity, genders, sexual orientation and mental or physical abilities, and promote the participation of equity-seeking groups within District 26.
For the past 2 years, I have worked to ensure successful campaigns by creating International Day of Persons with Disability posters, helping organize local toiletries campaigns, and attending workshops through activities with ETFO where we honored local women.
I also worked on equity issues with our Provincial Human Rights officer and with the OTBU executive committee to put the unheard voices affected by issues of inclusion at the forefront.
Within UCDSB and outside my district, I volunteer for Special Olympics Ontario, a movement dedicated to promoting respect, acceptance, inclusion, and human dignity for people with intellectual disabilities through sport. As a volunteer, I inspire, guide, and members.
I coach athletes, fostering a community where inclusion and participation thrive. I strive to improve upon both the awareness and support of the community in regards to Special Olympics Ontario and those involved.
Moving forward I plan to support the prevention of discrimination and harassment through human rights and accessibility training and professional development.
My experiences have helped me gain more knowledge and ideas to support OT’s in this district, by creating a stronger line of communication, where I aim to address the most current needs of our members.
Re-elect Jennifer Challenger for OTBU Human Rights Officer!
