My name is Ann Mcparland and I am running for the District Status of Women Officer.
I believe I can offer a fresh new perspective and re-energize the role of District Status of Women as I bring exciting new experiences to this position.
I have worked on the Cfed committee where I anchored very effective campaigns for International Women’s Day and Human Rights Day locally to build awareness and promote support in our community for equity and inclusion. I have introduced new successful campaigns by distributing media, organizing local toiletries campaigns, attending unique local conferences and workshops through activities with ETFO and L&G Small Business Association where we honoured local women and highlighted successful women in business.
I also worked on equity issues with our Provincial Human Rights officer, and the OTBU to put the unheard voices affected by issues of inclusion at the forefront.
As a volunteer and devoted member of D26, I was recognized and awarded the certificate for my contribution as OTBU Statusof Women last year.
Outside my district, I participated in many conferences; attending the Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression conference in Kingston and the Provincial Status of Women’s conference in Toronto where I was able to become more informed and collaborate with members across the province.
This year I will be attending the Status of Women Officer training conference in Kingston and will also be involved in a new women’s advocacy training initiative to learn how to better assist and support women whether it’s TBU, OTBU or PSSP.
My unique experiences have helped me gain more knowledge and ideas to support women in my district, opening a stronger line of communication, and to address the most current needs of our members.
I bring an exceptional and strong voice to the position as District 26 Status of Women officer position.
